True Motivational Stories
Looking for truth in motivation? Exaggeration, show-boasting, and bold embellishment tends to fall flat over time. It’s an attention economy, and the blow-hard with the most hot-air in his lungs takes the stage far too often.
Here’s an awesome true story that will motivate you with wisdom and the power of the human spirit.
Viktor Fankl shows the world not only what the mind could do but what the mind, body, and spirit could do in extreme circumstances.
Jordan Peterson dives deep into Viktor Frankl, existentialism, the mind and reality in the video below.
Inspirational Stories from the
Life of Great Personalities
What about stories of humans with robust personalities that are impossible to forget?
One of my childhood favorites, still going strong, and who has more personality that can fill most rooms, is Jim Carrey.
At 14, Carrey’s family hit rough economic times. His father was out of the job and they lived out of a VW van parked on a family member’s lawn. Young Jim was an aspiring and dedicated comic. He worked full-time in factories after school.
The laughs didn’t come easy, but that didn’t phase him. Still in his teens, he quit school to pursue comedy full time in LA.
He famously wrote himself a check for $10,000,000 for “Acting Services Rendered” and dated it Thanksgiving 1995.
Carrey struck gold with Dumb and Dumber and was able to clear the check, which he put in his father’s casket.
Jim Carrey grew up angry. He had to work hard. The odds were against him. On top of poverty and hard work he battled depression. He made his life making faces that makes people smile. He believed so much in himself that he wrote his future down and incredibly achieved it.

Here’s my personal favorite:
“Once a young man asked the wise man, Socrates, the secret to success. Socrates patiently listened to the man’s question and told him to meet him near the river the next morning for the answer. The next morning Socrates asked the young man to walk with him towards the river. As they went into the river the water got up to their neck. But to the young man’s surprise Socrates ducked him into the water.
The young man struggled to get out of the water, but Socrates was strong and kept him there until the boy started turning blue. Socrates pulled the man’s head out of the water. The young man gasped and took a deep breath of air. Socrates asked, ‘What did you want the most when your head was in the water?” The young man replied, “Air.” Socrates said, “That is the secret to success. When you want success as badly as you wanted the air while you were in the water, then you will get it. There is no other secret.”
